Medical Treatment in Singapore

Where to Stay

International patients usually stay close to the central hospital clusters. Orchard puts you beside Mount Elizabeth Orchard and a short distance from Gleneagles on Napier Road. Novena is built around Mount Elizabeth Novena and the wider Health City Novena medical campus. The civic core near Raffles Hospital is a third convenient base. All three are central, well connected, and low risk.

Singapore is hot and humid throughout the year, and indoor spaces are heavily air conditioned, so the climate itself rarely dictates timing. The one seasonal point worth planning around is haze: smoke haze can affect air quality roughly between June and October, which matters for anyone recovering from respiratory, cardiac, or chest procedures. Where treatment timing is flexible, that window is worth avoiding.

Safety and Travel

The Government of Canada places Singapore at its lowest advisory level, Take normal security precautions, applied across the whole country. In practice, Singapore is consistently ranked among the safest cities in the world, and violent crime against visitors is rare. The sensible precautions are ordinary ones: watch for occasional pickpocketing in crowded tourist areas and use ATMs in well-lit, reputable locations.

For a medical traveller, the central hospital districts of Orchard, Novena, and the area around Raffles Hospital are convenient and secure, which makes moving between your accommodation and appointments straightforward.

Oncology and Proton Beam Therapy

Singapore offers advanced cancer care including immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and proton beam therapy, the latter available at private centres such as Mount Elizabeth Novena. Proton therapy is significant for Canadians because Canada is the only G7 country with no clinical proton facility in operation, and patients who need it are currently referred abroad. The National Cancer Centre Singapore is an established regional centre of excellence.

Costs and Canadian Wait Times

Singapore is a premium destination: its value for Canadians lies in outcomes, technology, and the ability to skip long public waits, rather than in low prices. Canadian wait times below are drawn from the Fraser Institute 2025 report, which recorded a national median wait of 28.6 weeks from referral to treatment. Where a treatment is not offered in Canada at all, that is noted instead of a wait time. Treatments without confirmed pricing are not listed.
