Why Canadians consider a comprehensive check-up abroad
Canada's public system focuses on symptom-based and risk-based preventive care, does not offer packaged comprehensive screening to people without symptoms, and access to advanced imaging can take time. According to data published by the Fraser Institute in 2025, the median wait in Canada was 8.8 weeks for a CT scan and 18.1 weeks for an MRI. For those who want a comprehensive, organized assessment, or advanced imaging without the wait, a check-up program at an accredited hospital abroad is one option, usually completed within one or two days, with results provided in English.
A comprehensive check-up at an accredited hospital abroad is one option for earlier access to advanced imaging and screening. It applies to planned, elective assessments that can be arranged in advance, not to emergencies.
How a check-up abroad works for Canadians
The process is simple: you choose a check-up package. If you are not sure which one suits you, the medical team at the accredited hospital we work with recommends a program based on your age, sex, and what you want covered, and we send you a clear quote. Once you decide, we coordinate the hospital appointment, flights, accommodation, and airport transfers. Your screening is usually completed within one or two days. We prepare your results as a complete file in English so you can bring them to your physician in Canada.
A check-up abroad is private and paid directly by you.
The quote sets out what is and is not included. If you prefer not to pay all at once, instalment financing is available through third-party providers. Maple Med Global is a coordination service; the medical care is provided by the accredited hospital and its physicians, who hold clinical responsibility for your treatment.

Check-up services we coordinate
The programs we coordinate provide a comprehensive assessment in a single short visit. Comprehensive packages usually include several specialist examinations (internal medicine, cardiology, and others depending on the program). The modules and tier suited to you are based on your age, sex, and risk profile.

Comprehensive health screening
An internal medicine examination, a wide panel of blood tests (complete blood count, lipid panel, liver and kidney function, thyroid, diabetes markers, vitamins), full urinalysis, ECG, and a chest X-ray.

Advanced imaging without the wait (MRI, CT, PET-CT)
Cranial (brain) MRI, thorax CT, and whole-abdomen ultrasound are standard in comprehensive programs. PET-CT and additional MRI can be arranged at select centres or on request. This module can be arranged as part of a comprehensive program or on its own.

Cardiac screening (coronary CT, stress test)
ECG, transthoracic echocardiography, a treadmill stress test, and, where indicated, coronary CT angiography.

Cancer screening
Tumour markers, gastroscopy and colonoscopy (with same-session polyp removal where needed), digital mammography and breast ultrasound, and a gynecological or urological assessment by age and sex.

Executive full-body check-up
The most complete option, bringing together comprehensive laboratory tests, advanced imaging (cranial MRI, thorax CT, abdominal ultrasound), cardiac screening (coronary CT angiography, stress test, echocardiography), and cancer screening (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, tumour markers) in a single program. The contents vary by hospital; PET-CT and additional imaging are added at select centres or on request.
If a screening reveals a finding that needs further assessment, you can find the relevant treatment pathway on our Cardiology, Oncology, or Neurosurgery pages.
Who is suited to travel for a check-up
Those who benefit most from a comprehensive check-up are people with a family history or risk factors, those who want a thorough baseline assessment, those who want fast access to advanced imaging, and frequent travellers. For routine preventive care, the periodic preventive health visit in Canada is appropriate, and a comprehensive screening complements it rather than replacing it. If you are not sure which program suits you, the medical team at the accredited hospital we work with recommends a program based on your age, sex, and what you want covered, and some assessments may be better done where you live.
How we choose your hospital and care team
We select the hospital in every case on three criteria: the centre's screening volume and technology (laboratory accreditation and imaging equipment), the experience of the physicians who interpret the results, and an international patient department with English-language support. We share the hospital we recommend and the scope of the program with you.

The international hospitals we work with hold Joint Commission International (JCI), Accreditation Canada, or equivalent accreditation. If you want to compare, you can ask for more than one option.
Where Canadians can have a check-up abroad
We coordinate check-ups for Canadian patients at established international centres across the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The right destination depends on both your priorities (scope, language, timing, travel preference) and the suitability of the program.
